Every bar should have a great story. We think ours does—

Brunswick Balke Collender & Co. built our “San Domingo” model back bar and “San Leon” front bar sometime between 1894 and 1902 in Dubuque, Iowa. By the early 1900’s they had made their way to a tavern in Winlock, Washington, which is where we found them in 2012.

RJ Bocense painted both landscape scenes you see on the wall opposite the Brunswick in our restaurant. Winlock folklore is that “The Hunt,” circa 1900, the larger of the two pieces, was painted as a companion piece for the Brunswick. We originally found it framed on the wall opposite the bar, so maybe that’s true. In any event, the bar and painting have been together for over 100 years.

In 2012, we moved both pieces to Seattle and began their restoration, with the ultimate goal of having them installed in a new restaurant we were contemplating. The building we found in Ballard is named the W.E. Hunt building. That pretty much sealed the deal.

Welcome to Brunswick & Hunt! We hope our hospitality will make you want to visit our namesakes often in the years to come!
